Animation: Smithsonian Sea Monsters Unearthed! How Do Scientists Decode These Bones?

Many of Karen's models and animation are used in the Sea Monsters Unearthed! interactive kiosk, allowing visitors to study and explore the amazing bone beds uncovered by Dr. Louis Jacobs, Mike Polcyn and the rest of the Projecto PaleoAngola team.

One of the most amazing parts of the exhibit is the number of mosasaur bones found inside a large mosasaur's stomach. Evidently these Cretaceous sea monsters were not above cannibalism!

This brief intro video shows the death of the large mosasaur, its decomposition and burial, and its uncovering 77 million years later.

Full-size HD video available upon request.
